JSM Development Announces the Development of New Building on Green Street and the Attraction of 

National Retailer, Urban Outfitters, to Campustown

 

Champaign based developer, JSM Development will be initiating the immediate construction of a seven story 

building at 507 East Green Street, in the heart of Campustown. The mixed use development, located on the 

south side of Green Street, will be completed in early summer of 2008. The site of the building is presently a 

privately owned parking lot situated just east of JSM’s 505 East Green building, the home to Cold Stone 

Creamery and National City Bank.

 

JSM Development is pleased to announce the anchor retail tenant, Urban Outfitters, who will occupy 12,000 

square feet of the building. Urban Outfitters’ space will encompass the first and second floors of the building.

Urban Outfitters operates 107 stores in the U.S., Canada, and Europe and is publicly traded on the Nasdaq. 

Merchandise includes women’s and men’s apparel, accessories, footwear, items for apartments, gifts, and 

novelties. Of their 107 stores, seven are located in Illinois, all of which are in the Chicagoland area.

 

The remaining five floors of the building will be for office users. A portion of the office space will be utilized 

by the University of Illinois. JSM was recently selected by the University of Illinois through a Request for 

Proposal process to provide inner-campus office space. The Board of Trustees approved the office space at 

their September board meeting.

 

“Urban Outfitters will be a tremendous addition to Campustown. This national retailer will be a regional draw 

and re-establishes clothing sales in the Campustown area. JSM has had Urban Outfitters on our target list for 

several years and have been in negotiations with their company for the past ten months,” stated Jill Guth, 

Director of Development for JSM.

 

JSM Development owns over 850 student apartments near the University of Illinois campus as well as 200,000 

square feet of commercial space in Champaign-Urbana. JSM is also presently developing, Gregory Place East, 

a five story building on the east side of campus that will include retail, office, and student apartments.
